Authorities in North Carolina have launched a massive manhunt to search for an escaped killer. Ramone Alston, 30, who was serving a life sentence for fatally shooting a one-year-old girl on Christmas in 2015, managed to break away from a corrections officer while he was being transported to UNC Hospital in Hillsborough on Tuesday (August 13).
The North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections said that Alston managed to free himself from his leg restraints and ran into the woods while he was still handcuffed. Alston was wearing a gray T-shirt, brown pants, and white New Balance sneakers when he escaped.
Numerous teams from state, local, and federal agencies have assisted in the manhunt for Alston, searching hundreds of acres using helicopters, canine units, and ground searchers.
Officials have asked anybody who sees him or knows about his whereabouts to call 911.
“He’s unpredictable — we don’t know what he’s going to do, so he should certainly probably be considered dangerous,” Keith Acree, a spokesperson for the North Carolina Department of Adult Correction, said in a press briefing. “People make rash decisions at a time like this; he’s already made one very large rash decision this morning.”
