LBPD: Homeless Man Fatally Shot in Long Beach; Investigation Underway

ONG BEACH (CNS) – A homeless man was fatally shot in Long Beach, and an investigation was underway, authorities said Monday.

Officers were sent to the 600 block of East South Street about 7 a.m. Sunday, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

“Upon arrival, officers located a male adult victim with gunshot wounds to his upper body,” police said in a statement. “Long Beach Fire Department personnel determined the victim deceased at the scene. Homicide detectives responded.”

Police identified the man as 43-year-old Ali Jabbaar Phannix.

“The motive for the shooting and circumstances of the incident are still under investigation,” the police statement said. “Detectives believe there were witnesses in the area and are encouraging them to come forward.”
