LASD Deputy Stabbed, Kills Suspect at Lancaster Metrolink Station

LANCASTER (CNS) – A Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department deputy was wounded Saturday in an encounter at the Lancaster Metrolink station with a knife-wielding man and fatally wounded the suspect when he fired back.

Deputies responded to a call of an assault with a deadly weapon about 2:05 p.m. Saturday at the train station at Sierra Highway and Lancaster Boulevard, the LASD confirmed to City News Service. The suspect was armed with a knife.

The suspect stabbed the deputy, who shot him in response. Both were taken by ambulance to hospitals, where the suspect was pronounced dead and the deputy was treated for non-life-threatening injuries, sheriff’s officials said.

A description of the suspect was not made available, and the deputy’s identity was not immediately released.

“We are grateful that our deputy sustained non-life-threatening injuries and will be returning home to their loved ones,” Sheriff Robert G. Luna said. “Incidents like this are a stark reminder that every day, law enforcement professionals like our deputies step into unpredictable and rapidly evolving situations in service to protecting our communities.”
