Overnight Closures to Begin Friday on 405 Freeway Through Sepulveda Pass

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Overnight lane, ramp and freeway connector closures will begin Friday evening on the San Diego (405) Freeway through the Sepulveda Pass as Caltrans continues a $143.7 million pavement rehabilitation project.

The closures are scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. Friday and last through 5 a.m. Monday, according to Caltrans.

The southbound 405 will be reduced to three lanes between Ventura Boulevard and Mulholland Drive and the on-ramp from Ventura Boulevard to the southbound side of the freeway will be closed along with the off-ramp from the northbound 405 to Getty Center Drive.

Another round of closures is scheduled from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday for K-rail installation and paving work, the agency announced.

Up to four lanes of the northbound and southbound 405 will be closed at various locations between Wilshire Boulevard and Skirball Center Drive/Mulholland Drive, while as many as five northbound lanes will be closed between Skirball Center Drive/Mulholland Drive and Sepulveda Boulevard.

Additional northbound lane reductions are planned between Sepulveda and Victory boulevards, Caltrans stated.

Various on- and off-ramps along the freeway will also be closed intermittently, including ramps at Ventura, Getty Center, Skirball Center/Mulholland, Burbank, Victory and Sepulveda boulevards. Connectors between the 405 and the Ventura (101) Freeway will also be subject to closures.

The speed limit will be reduced to 55 mph in certain sections of the northbound and southbound 405 because of the ongoing paving work.

The work is part of the I-405 Pavement Rehabilitation Project between Van Nuys and Westwood, intended to improve safety and extend the life of the freeway pavement.

Residents and businesses near the construction may experience noise, vibrations and dust, Caltrans stated.
