LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Los Angeles County’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate increased to 5.9% in October, up from a revised 5.8% in September, according to figures released Friday by the state Employment Development Department.
The 5.9% rate was above the rate of 5.3% from October 2023.
Meanwhile, the October unemployment rate in Orange County was 4.1%, unchanged from September, but above the 3.9% rate from October 2023.
Statewide, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 5.4% in October, up from 5.3% in September and above the 5.1% rate from October 2023.
Nationally, the rate was 4.1% in October, the same as September and above the 3.8% rate from a year ago.
Total nonfarm employment in Los Angeles County increased by 37,600 between September and October to top 4.6 million. Private education and health services led the way by adding 11,100 jobs.
In Orange County, nonfarm employment rose by 11,400 positions.
