JFK’s Grandson Jack Schlossberg Announces Run For Office

Democratic influencer Jack Schlossberg, the grandson of late former President John F. Kennedy, announced his intention to run for New York’s 12th Congressional seat being vacated by Representative Jerrold Nadler.

Schlossberg, 32, the only son of Caroline Kennedy, shared a video confirming his campaign on his Instagram account after sending an email to supporters, according to the New York Times.

“My name is Jack Schlossberg, and I’m running for Congress to represent my home, New York’s 12th congressional district, where I was born and raised, where I took the bus to school every single day from one side of the district to the other,” Schlossberg wrote in the caption of his Instagram post.

“This is the best part of the greatest city on Earth. We have the best hospitals and schools, restaurants and museums. This is the financial and media capital of the world.

“This district should have a representative who can harness the creativity, energy and drive of this district and translate that into political power in Washington.

“I’m not running because I have all the answers to our problems. I’m running because the people of New York 12 do. I want to listen to your struggles, hear your stories, amplify your voice, go to Washington and execute on your behalf.”

Schlossberg, a rising name in the Democratic party, had previously told the New York Times that his candidacy was “certainly a possibility” on September 2, before sharing a poll asking his Instagram followers, “Should I run for office?” The 32-year-old will become the first member of the Kennedy family to run for Congress since Joe Kennedy III launched an unsuccessful campaign against progressive Sen. Ed Markey in 2020.

Schlossberg served as a political correspondent for Vogue and speaking at the 2024 Democratic National Convention, as well as joining his relatives in criticizing his cousin, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who ran as an Independent in the 2024 presidential election before dropping out, endorsing President Donald Trump and later being selected as his secretary of health and human services.
