Israel has launched preemptive strikes against Iran Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said. He declared a nationwide state of emergency, warning of an imminent missile and drone assault targeting Israel.
Katz stated, “Following the State of Israel’s preemptive strike against Iran, a missile and drone attack against the State of Israel and its civilian population is expected in the immediate future.”
The strikes come after the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) reported that Iran has attempted to conceal its nuclear ambitions. In response, Tehran announced plans to build new uranium enrichment facilities, escalating tensions further.
The United States is closely monitoring the situation, with President Donald Trump suggesting that an Israeli attack could disrupt U.S. diplomatic efforts with Iran. Trump emphasized that Iran must not obtain nuclear weapons and expressed a preference for a diplomatic resolution. However, he acknowledged the possibility of a “massive conflict” in the region.
The U.S. was not involved with the strikes and did not provide Israel with any assistance in carrying them out.
U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee said the embassy in Jerusalem is “closely following the situation.”
“At our Embassy in Jerusalem and closely following the situation. We will remain here all night. “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem!” Huckabee wrote on X.
U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff warned that Iran could retaliate with a mass casualty attack if Israel strikes its nuclear sites. The U.S. is considering various levels of involvement, from providing defensive capabilities to limited support for Israel’s military campaign. Options include aerial refueling, intelligence sharing, and air and missile defenses.
Talks between the U.S. and Iran are scheduled for Sunday (June 15) in Oman, in what could be a last-ditch effort to avoid open conflict. Meanwhile, the U.S. has restricted travel for its personnel in the region due to increased tensions.
