Former President Donald Trump is currently leading Vice President Kamala Harris in an Ohio cookie poll that’s accurately predicted all but one election since 1984.
Trump reportedly has 54% support (2,953 cookies) to Harris’ 39% (2,134 cookies), while an “Independent” smiley-face cookie accounts for 7% (397 cookies) among cookies sold by Busken Bakery in Cincinnati, according to the latest tally shared to the New York Post. The cookie poll will remain open until Election Day (November 5) and the current results are considered to be “early voting.”
“We like to joke and say [customers] can stuff the ballot box,” said Dan Busken, president and CEO of Busken Bakery, via the New York Post.
Each cookie, which can be purchased online or at one of four local Busken stores, counts for a single vote and there’s no limit to how many a consumer can purchase. The “poll” has accurately predicted 10 elections, though missing the result of President Joe Biden‘s 2020 victory.
“Our results, out of our four retail stores, kind of cover the north, south, east and west portions of Cincinnati. So they’re pretty diverse,” Busken told the New York Post. “It’s definitely interesting that in a state like Ohio and in a city like Cincinnati that there’s been such accuracy in this cookie poll over the years.”
Ohio has long been considered a crucial key swing state, choosing the winner of every election between 1964 and 2016, before going to Trump in the 2020 election.
