President-elect Donald Trump‘s inauguration will be held indoors on Monday (January 20) because of the frigid weather forecast in Washington, D.C. Instead, Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance will take their oaths of office inside the Capitol Rotunda.
Officials are still trying to decide whether to hold the inaugural parade and other celebrations. There are reports that some of the events could be held at the Capital One arena, where Trump is hosting a rally on Saturday night.
They are also trying to work out the logistics of how to handle the tens of thousands of people expected to attend the inauguration.
The forecast for Monday predicts temperatures in the 20s and wind chills in the single digits. It will be one of the coldest days in the nation’s capital in 40 years.
The last inauguration to be held indoors was in 1985 when Ronald Reagan was sworn in for his second term. On that day, temperatures were around seven degrees, with a windchill of -25.
