Trump Announces US-Iran Agreement, Blockade to End

President Donald Trump announced on Sunday that the United States has reached an agreement with Iran, marking a significant development in ongoing diplomatic efforts. In a post on Truth Social, President Trump declared the immediate removal of the US naval blockade on Iran, allowing the Strait of Hormuz to reopen. This agreement aims to end military operations in Lebanon and other fronts, as confirmed by Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi.

The agreement is set to be formally signed on June 19th in Switzerland, as stated by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who played a key role in mediating the deal. The signing ceremony will be attended by US Vice President JD Vance, with President Trump potentially joining. The deal will initiate a 60-day period for further negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program, including discussions on enriched uranium stockpiles.

Qatar and Pakistan have been instrumental in facilitating the agreement, with Qatari negotiators currently in Tehran to ensure the finalization of the deal. The agreement is expected to ease the global energy crisis by reopening the critical Strait of Hormuz, which has been effectively closed since the US and Israel launched strikes on Iran earlier this year.

The announcement follows a tense period marked by Israeli strikes in Beirut, which President Trump criticized as jeopardizing the diplomatic efforts. Despite the tensions, the agreement is seen as a step toward regional peace, with both the US and Iran committing to end hostilities.
