Huntington Beach police have issued a warning regarding a potential “takeover” event planned for August 1, cautioning that anyone involved in organizing or participating in criminal activities could face arrest.
The warning, posted on the Huntington Beach Police Department’s Facebook page, begins with, “Dear ‘Beach Bash’ organizers… Thanks for the flyer. We’ve seen it too.”
This alert follows a chaotic Fourth of July weekend in neighboring Newport Beach, where social media posts attracted thousands of minors and young adults to the Balboa Peninsula. The gathering escalated into fights, fireworks thrown at police officers, blocked roadways, and widespread vandalism, resulting in an unlawful assembly declaration and 402 arrests, as reported by the Orange County Register.
The police department is aware of social media posts promoting the “Beach Bash” and is actively investigating the event. According to KTLA, detectives have identified individuals believed to be involved in organizing and promoting the event. Charges for those involved could include incitement to riot, vandalism, theft, assault, reckless driving, unlawful assembly, and conspiracy.
Huntington Beach Mayor Casey McKeon stated that the city is coordinating with law enforcement agencies and taking precautions to prevent a repeat of the Newport Beach incident. He emphasized the importance of parental diligence in preventing such behavior.
The police department also warned that minors are not exempt from prosecution and that parents or guardians may be held legally or financially responsible for damage caused by their children. The Los Angeles Times reported that the department is coordinating with regional law enforcement agencies to ensure a robust response to any potential disturbances.
Residents and visitors are encouraged to report any information about the event to the Huntington Beach Police Department’s Special Investigations Bureau at 714-536-5991.
