Five women in Jersey City, New Jersey, are recovering after being attacked with a substance believed to be sulfuric acid on Monday (June 15). The incident occurred near 105 Wilkinson Ave when a vehicle approached the women, and an individual threw the acid at them. All five victims were taken to a local hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, including skin burns and peeling. Jersey City Police suspect the attack was targeted and may have resulted from an earlier dispute involving a large group of people.
The police are continuing their investigation into the attack. According to a report by ABC7NY, all victims are currently in stable condition. The authorities are working to identify the suspects involved in the incident.
In a similar case last month, three Florida residents were arrested for an alleged acid attack on a woman in Monroe Township, New Jersey. ABC News reported that the suspects were hired to carry out the attack, which left the victim with chemical burns over 35% of her body. The investigation revealed that the attack was orchestrated by the victim’s ex-boyfriend, who allegedly paid nearly $40,000 for the assault.
The Monroe Township victim is still undergoing treatment and has had more than 10 surgeries. According to NJ.com, the alleged mastermind and his accomplices have been charged with first-degree attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and other related offenses.
