Disney’s Moana, Will Ferrell’s The Hawk & Danny McBride’s New Book

Disney’s Live-Action Moana Is Already Dividing Critics

Disney’s live-action remake of Moana has officially arrived, but unlike the original 2016 animated blockbuster, critics aren’t exactly singing its praises.

Dwayne Johnson returns as Maui, while newcomer Catherine Laga’aia steps into the title role, but many reviewers say the remake never captures the magic of the original. Several major outlets criticized the film for relying too heavily on CGI, calling it “flat,” “pointless,” and more like another animated movie than a true live-action adaptation.

Not everyone agrees. Variety praised the film’s visuals and said it successfully recreates the heart and adventure that made Moana such a beloved hit.

The bigger question may be whether audiences care what critics think. Disney’s recent live-action remakes have been wildly unpredictable at the box office. Snow White struggled, while Lilo & Stitch became one of the year’s biggest successes. Families, not critics, will ultimately decide where Moana lands.

Will Ferrell’s The Hawk Is a Hole-in-One for Comedy Fans

If you need something lighter, Netflix’s new comedy The Hawk tees off July 16, and after getting an early look at the premiere, it’s one comedy worth putting on your watchlist.

The series leans into complete country club chaos with over-the-top golf fashion, awkward social rivalries, and exactly the kind of absurd humor Will Ferrell does best. Think colorful sweaters, loud personalities, and plenty of laugh-out-loud moments.

The premiere itself was almost as entertaining as the movie. Guests, including Molly Shannon, Fortune Feimster, Luke Wilson, and skateboarding legend Tony Hawk, embraced the golf-themed festivities, complete with a mini-golf course where, yes… I somehow managed to score a hole-in-one. I may never retire that story.

Danny McBride’s New Book Shows the Man Behind the Mayhem

Danny McBride has built a career playing unforgettable loudmouths in projects like Eastbound & Down, The Righteous Gemstones, and Vice Principals. Now he’s giving fans something a little different with his new book, Thrilling Tales of Modern Men.

While McBride’s signature humor is front and center, the book also explores the experiences that shaped his career, creative process, and unlikely journey to becoming one of Hollywood’s most distinctive comedy voices.

It’s equal parts funny, reflective, and surprisingly sincere, exactly what longtime fans would hope for.

Whether you’re heading to the theater for Moana, streaming The Hawk on Netflix, or picking up Danny McBride’s latest read, there’s plenty to keep entertainment fans busy this week. And as always, sometimes the conversation around the projects is almost as entertaining as the projects themselves.
