LA CAÑADA FLINTRIDGE (CNS) – Life-size dinosaurs and prehistoric mammals will be on display at Descanso Gardens beginning Friday with the opening of Dinosaurs at Descanso Railroad, a new attraction featuring large-scale creatures alongside the garden’s popular miniature railroad.
The exhibit features dinosaur and Cretaceous-era mammal sculptures created from natural materials by design studio Applied Imagination and placed throughout the railroad landscape and Ancient Forest area of the gardens, according to Descanso Gardens officials.
Visitors can view the prehistoric displays while exploring the miniature train exhibit and also ride Descanso Gardens’ full-size electric train through the property.
Opening day activities scheduled from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday include dinosaur-themed programs for children, fossil-related educational activities and puppet performances presented by the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.
Additional opening weekend activities Saturday and Sunday will include fossil displays at Magnolia Court, dinosaur-themed activities on the Main Lawn and opportunities for children to participate in the gardens’ summer passport program.
“Summer at Descanso is really about the joy of being outside together,” Descanso Gardens CEO Juliann Rooke said in a statement. “We’ve built a season where music, art and nature converge in one of LA’s most magical settings. And this summer, we are particularly excited to have dinosaurs at Descanso Railroad.”
The dinosaur attraction launches a summer season that will also feature concerts, art exhibitions and family programs at the 150-acre botanical garden through September.
Descanso Gardens is located at 1418 Descanso Drive and is open daily.
