Chris Johnson Revives ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Former NFL running back Chris Johnson is bringing back the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to raise awareness for the disease after revealing his own diagnosis last year. Johnson, 39, announced his condition on “Good Morning America” earlier this week, appearing alongside his wife. Following the announcement, Johnson posted a video on Instagram where his daughter poured a bowl of ice water over his head, marking the revival of the challenge.

The Ice Bucket Challenge first went viral in 2014, raising approximately $220 million globally for ALS research. Johnson aims to reignite the campaign’s success by challenging former NFL players, including Vince Young, Pro Football Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, and others, to participate. Former running backs Marshawn Lynch and LenDale White have already accepted the challenge and shared their own videos.

In his Instagram post, Johnson expressed gratitude for the support he’s received, stating, “Seeing this video reminded me of something powerful. Years ago, the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge united millions of people around one cause and helped change the fight against this disease. Today, I’m asking you to help me do it again.”

Johnson, who was diagnosed with ALS last year, had a notable NFL career, rushing for 9,651 yards over 10 years with teams like the Tennessee Titans, New York Jets, and Arizona Cardinals. He was the Associated Press Offensive Player of the Year in 2009 after rushing for 2,006 yards.

The challenge aims to continue raising awareness and funds for ALS research, with Johnson’s efforts already gaining traction among former athletes and fans alike.
