As California’s primary election nears its conclusion, over 600 voting centers are open across Los Angeles County, encouraging residents to cast their ballots early.
The primary election, set for Tuesday, includes pivotal races such as the California governor and Los Angeles mayor. Election officials are urging voters to either vote early or return their mail-in ballots before the polls close Tuesday night.
At the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk headquarters in Norwalk, voters have already begun dropping off ballots. According to KCRA, California’s top-two system means the two candidates with the most votes, regardless of party, will advance to the November election. This primary is especially significant as it marks the first gubernatorial race in years without a clear frontrunner, following Governor Gavin Newsom’s term limit.
The election also features newly redrawn district maps under Proposition 50, which aims to favor Democrats in several congressional races. Voters are reminded that all active registered voters receive a vote-by-mail ballot, and same-day voter registration is available for those who missed the May 18 deadline. As reported by CalMatters, the primary includes all 80 California Assembly seats and 20 Senate seats.
Los Angeles County offers more than 400 official ballot drop boxes, and ballots postmarked by Election Day will be counted if received within seven days. Voters can track their ballots using a tool provided by the county. More information on voting options and polling locations is available on the NBC Los Angeles website.
