Authorities in San Diego, California are responding to reports of an active shooter at the Islamic Center Of San Diego.
“SDPD is on scene at the Islamic Center of San Diego in the 7000 block of Eckstrom Ave for a reported active shooter. Please avoid the area. Updates to follow. #SDPDPIO,” the San Diego Police Department wrote on X, just after 12 p.m. local time.
According to KGTV, the police have shutdown the northbound and southbound Interstate 805 off-ramps to Balboa Avenue.
KUSI is reporting that officials are evacuating nearby schools while the police set-up a perimeter around the mosque, which is the largest in San Diego County.
Local residents are being advised to shelter-in-place.
About an hour after the initial post, the San Diego Police Department said that the “threat at the Islamic center has been neutralized.”
According to a report by KNSD, two suspects were killed, as well as at least one person from the mosque. The station also reported patients were being treated for injuries at Sharp Memorial Hospital.
