Decomposing Human Remains Found On Public Hiking Trail

Human remains in various states of decomposition were discovered near the Bone Wash Trail and Elephant Arch hiking area in Washington City, Utah, on Sunday (January 12). A hiker reported the find, prompting a swift response from the Washington City Police Department and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities confirmed that the remains belonged to a man and had been there for an extended period of time.

The remains were transported to the Medical Examiner’s office for further investigation to determine the cause of death. According to police, there are no signs of foul play at this time. The man’s identity has been confirmed, and his family has been notified, though his name has not been publicly released out of respect for the family.
