Brea Police Kill Possible DUI Driver

BREA (CNS) – A male who appeared to be driving under the influence was shot to death by Brea police officers, authorities said Friday.

The officers were notified at 4:42 p.m. Thursday about a possible DUI driver in the area of Lambert Road and the Orange (57) Freeway, according to a Brea Police Department statement.

Responding officers found a vehicle matching the description of the possible DUI vehicle up against a retaining wall in westbound lanes of Lambert Road east of the freeway, police said.

“Officers made contact with the driver,” the statement noted. “A short time later, an officer-involved shooting occurred. The driver of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased by medical staff.”

Police did not provide an explanation for the fatal shooting. But video shown on FOX11 showed the suspect’s large SUV nose-to-nose with a patrol SUV, pushing it in the intersection.

The Orange County District Attorney’s office responded to the scene to begin an investigation, per department policy, police said.

Anyone who saw the shooting or has related information was asked to contact the OCDA’s office at 714-664-3964.
