Vice President Kamala Harris called President-Elect Donald Trump on Wednesday (November 6) to concede the election and congratulate him on his victory.
A senior Harris aide said that Harris stressed the importance of the peaceful transfer of power and, according to Fox News reporter Peter Doocy, affirmed that she will, in her role as President of the Senate, vote to certify Trump’s victory.
“Trump acknowledged Vice President Harris on her strength, professionalism, and tenacity throughout the campaign, and both leaders agreed on the importance of unifying the country,” Trump campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said in a statement about the phone call.
President Joe Biden also called the president-elect and promised his support to ensure a smooth transition of power. Biden also invited Trump to the White House at an undisclosed date.
Vice President Harris will give a concession speech on Wednesday afternoon at Howard University. President Biden will address the nation in a speech on Thursday.
