REDONDO BEACH (CNS) – A man was found dead inside an overturned boat off Redondo Beach Sunday and four adults and a child were rescued alive.
The overturned boat was reported at 1:08 p.m. Sunday about one mile offshore from the Avenue C Lifeguard Tower of the beach, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
A distress call came via cellphone to the Redondo Beach Harbor Patrol, sheriff’s officials said. Four adults and one child were found clinging to the boat, including the boat’s captain. They were taken by ambulances to a hospital where they had stable vital signs.
But a sixth person was reported missing and a rescue diver located the man inside the overturned boat, sheriff’s officials said. Life-saving measures were performed but he was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not released pending notification of relatives.
An investigation was underway by sheriff’s homicide detectives and the U.S. Coast Guard, the officials said.
