A video shared online shows an alligator wandering onto a Florida airport tarmac.
The clip was shared on social media by Ali Drake, who captured the incident from a plane that passed the alligator as it made its way across the tarmac at Orlando Executive Airport last week.
“The airport in Florida ✈️ 🐊 😮 #orlando #orlandoflorida #florida #alligator #floridalife #airport #onlyinflorida,” Drake wrote in the caption of the video shared on Instagram.
The alligator appears to waddle over to a grassy area next to the tarmac, at which point it appears to be shooed away by an airport employee in order to get it away from oncoming traffic.
Other witnesses on the plane are overheard estimating that the large reptile is about 10 feet long. No additional details about the incident were made available.
Alligators are reported to be present in all 67 of Florida’s counties, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission. Male alligators are capable of growing larger than 10 feet while female alligators are rarely longer than 10 feet.
The longest known alligator in the state of Florida was measured to be 14 feet, 3.5 inches long, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
