A 12-year-old boy died after falling from an interior balcony on Royal Caribbean’s Harmony of the Seas cruise ship. The incident occurred on Saturday (September 7) night as the ship was heading back to Galveston, Texas.
According to the website Royal Caribbean Blog, the boy was playing with other kids he met in the Central Park area of the ship, which is located on Deck 8 and includes numerous bars, restaurants, and shops. Witnesses said that the boy fell over the balcony and landed on the floor below. Crew members rushed to his aid but were unable to save his life.
The FBI is investigating the boy’s death, telling the Washington Post it is “the primary federal agency authorized to investigate potential crimes on the high seas.”
“We are deeply saddened to confirm the death of one of our guests. Our Care Team is providing support and assistance to the guest’s family during this difficult time. For the privacy of the guest and their family, we have no additional details to share,” a Royal Caribbean spokesperson said in a statement.
