Thousands of cases of canned dog food sold across the United States and Canada have been recalled after complaints of potential metal contamination. Fromm Family Foods announced the recall of about 5,800 cases of two wet dog food products after receiving multiple reports of metal fragments in the cans, according to the Food and Drug Administration.
The affected products include 3,852 cases of Fromm Turkey Pâté Wet Dog Food and 1,973 cases of Fromm Diner Classics Milo’s Meatloaf Pâté Wet Dog Food. Both products were distributed through neighborhood pet stores and online retailers nationwide and in Canada. The recalled Turkey Pâté comes in 12.2-ounce cans with UPC 072705118700 and lot code EP2A3306 551006, while the Milo’s Meatloaf Pâté comes in 12.5-ounce cans with UPC 072705132324 and lot code EP2A3306 551029. Both products have a best-by date of March 2029.
No illnesses or injuries have been reported so far, but ingesting metal fragments can pose serious health risks to dogs. Symptoms may include choking, vomiting, loss of appetite, lethargy, and stomach discomfort. Sharp pieces of metal can cause cuts to the mouth and digestive tract, and larger fragments could cause blockages or intestinal obstruction. Pet owners whose dogs show these symptoms after eating the recalled food are urged to contact their veterinarian immediately.
Fromm Family Foods stated that it has identified the cause of the contamination and has taken corrective action to prevent future issues. No other Fromm products are part of the recall.
