Severe weather is expected to impact parts of the Central U.S. today (Sunday, June 21). Forecasters predict a risk of severe thunderstorms stretching from Nebraska to Tennessee, and from Oklahoma to Indiana. The hardest-hit areas are anticipated to be parts of Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri, southern Illinois, and western Kentucky.
According to the NWS Storm Prediction Center, damaging wind gusts, large hail, flash flooding, and rising rivers are possible. There may also be a few tornadoes, with a potential for strong tornadoes across parts of Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana during the afternoon and evening.
The NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has issued a Level 4 out of 5 risk of severe thunderstorms for parts of Kansas and southeastern Nebraska, highlighting the threat of violent EF-3+ tornadoes.
As the day progresses, severe weather could stretch eastward on Monday (June 22) towards the Mid-Atlantic, affecting over 80 million people across a 1,000-mile corridor from Texas to western New York.
Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay informed and take necessary precautions as the situation develops.
