Average L.A. County Gas Price Drops To Lowest Amount Since March 15

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County dropped Friday for the 31st time in 32 days, falling 3.3 cents to $5.614, its lowest amount since March 15.

The average price has fallen 60.1 cents over the past 32 days, including 4.1 cents Thursday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It dropped six consecutive days, rose two-tenths of a cent May 25 and resumed decreasing May 26.

The average price is 19.2 cents less than one week ago and 59.4 cents lower than one month ago, but 96.6 cents more than one year ago.

The Orange County average price dropped for the 36th time in 37 days, falling 3.7 cents to $5.485, its lowest amount since March 13. It has dropped 66.7 cents over the past 37 days, including 3.6 cents Thursday.

The Orange County average price is 18.9 cents less than one week ago and 68.7 cents lower than one month ago, but 92.3 cents more than one year ago.

“Oil prices are trading below $80 a barrel today and gas prices in Southern California have tumbled by about 60 cents a gallon below their highest point of the year reached in early May,” Kandace Redd, the Automobile Club of Southern California’s senior public affairs specialist, said in a statement released Thursday.

“But there is still a long way to go to reach the prices that drivers were paying at this time last year. Consumers should continue to aggressively shop around for the lowest gas prices near them using an online tool.”

The national average price dropped for the 29th consecutive day, decreasing 2.6 cents to $3.973. It has fallen 59.1 cents over the past 29 days, including 2.6 cents Thursday. It is 13.5 cents less than one week ago and 56 cents lower than one month ago, but 76.6 cents more than one year ago.
