Ex-Wife of NY Serial Killer to Skip Sentencing

The ex-wife of the admitted Gilgo Beach serial killer, Rex Heuermann, has announced she will not attend his sentencing next week in New York. Heuermann, who confessed to murdering eight women, is scheduled to be sentenced on Wednesday, June 17. He is expected to receive consecutive life sentences without the possibility of parole. According to ABC7NY, Asa Ellerup, Heuermann’s ex-wife, expressed that the day should focus on the victims and their families. Ellerup’s attorney stated, “She believes this day should be centered on the victims, their families, and the profound impact these crimes have had on their lives.”

Meanwhile, Ellerup and her daughter, Victoria Heuermann, are facing a lawsuit filed by Benjamin Torres, the son of victim Valerie Mack. The lawsuit, reported by FOX 5 NY, claims that Ellerup and Victoria profited from media deals and documentaries about the crimes, showing “callous disregard” for the victims’ families.

Heuermann, 62, admitted to murdering eight women over a 17-year period, including Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman, and Amber Costello. His plea agreement, as detailed by The Guardian, includes cooperation with the FBI and no further prosecution for the murders. Ellerup has expressed sympathy for the victims’ families and requested privacy during this difficult time.
