An Orange County mother, Melissa Lynn Beisel, 41, faces murder charges following the death of her 2-year-old son, Aidan, who was found unresponsive in a bathroom.
Authorities arrested Beisel on June 4, as reported by the Orange County District Attorney’s Office.
On September 22, 2025, police responded to a call at a home on South Main Street in Placentia around 9 p.m. Officers discovered Beisel holding Aidan while the shower was running. The child was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Beisel was also hospitalized for superficial stab wounds to her neck and arms, according to MyNewsLA.com.
Beisel told police she had placed Aidan in a storage bin filled with water in the shower and left the room for two minutes to get soap. Upon returning, she found him face down and unresponsive. She attempted CPR and, when unsuccessful, harmed herself with a sharp object. Beisel remained in the bathroom with Aidan for six hours until the boy’s father found them and called 911.
Initially investigated as a drowning, further inquiries led detectives to classify the case as a homicide. Beisel, who had moved to Northern California after the incident, was arrested in Coarsegold, Madera County. She is charged with one felony count of murder and one felony count of assault on a child with force likely to produce great bodily injury resulting in death. If convicted, Beisel could face up to 25 years to life in prison. She is currently held at the Orange County Jail without bail.
Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer expressed his sorrow over the incident, stating, “The death of a child is a grief that can never be explained and a grief that can never be healed.” The investigation continues, with Beisel’s arraignment rescheduled for June 30 in the North Justice Center in Fullerton.
