Vehicle Hits Small Plane That Made Emergency Landing On Highway

A small plane was struck by a vehicle moments after making an emergency landing on a highway in North Carolina on Wednesday (August 28) night. The Greensboro Police Department said that the pilot of a single-engine Beech A35 reported losing power around 8 p.m. while on final approach to Piedmont Triad International Airport.

The pilot was forced to land on the westbound lanes of Interstate 840 at the junction with Interstate 73. The plane landed safely, and the pilot managed to maneuver the aircraft onto the right-hand shoulder of the highway.

As the pilot and passenger got out of the plane, a vehicle swerved to avoid the small craft but struck the passenger and then clipped the wing of the aircraft.

The passenger suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital and has since been released. The pilot and the driver of the vehicle were unharmed in the crash.

The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the cause of the airplane malfunction but will leave the investigation of the crash to the Greensboro police because it happened after the flight had concluded.
