Company Recalls Entire Line Of Chocolate Bars Due To Salmonella Concerns

Spring & Mulberry has expanded its recall to include all 12 of its chocolate bar lines due to concerns of possible salmonella contamination. The recall, announced Friday by the Raleigh, North Carolina–based company and federal regulators, now impacts every product made with a specific lot of date ingredient used to sweeten the chocolate bars. According to the company, the affected products have been available nationwide since August 2025 through online and select retail partners.

No confirmed illnesses or adverse health effects have been reported related to the recalled bars as of Monday (May 11), and all finished products involved have tested negative for salmonella. However, as explained by the company’s investigation with food safety experts and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the expansion follows a root cause review that traced the contamination risk to a single batch of dates. The supplier initially issued a recall, which led Spring & Mulberry to recall all finished products made with the implicated ingredient. For more details, see the company’s official statement on their recall page.

The recall covers a wide range of flavors, including Blood Orange, Coffee, Earl Grey, Lavender Rose, Mango Chili, Mint Leaf, Mixed Berry, Mulberry Fennel, Pecan Date, Pure Dark, Pure Dark Mini, and Sea Salt. Each product can be identified by specific lot codes noted on the packaging. Customers are urged not to eat any of the listed products. Instead, they should photograph the packaging and batch code and contact the company at recalls@springandmulberry.com for a refund before safely disposing of the product. More details and a full list of affected lot codes are available in the FDA recall notice.

Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause serious illness, particularly in young children, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems. Symptoms may include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare cases, the infection can become severe or fatal if it spreads beyond the digestive system. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention notes that most healthy individuals recover without medical treatment, but anyone experiencing severe or persistent symptoms should seek medical care.

Spring & Mulberry emphasized its commitment to product safety and is working closely with federal authorities to resolve the issue. The company’s customer service is available Monday through Friday, 9 a.m.–5 p.m. Eastern Standard Time, for questions about the recall. As of now, the recall remains voluntary and no illnesses have been linked to the affected products, but consumers are advised to remain cautious and follow recall instructions.
