A high school wrestling coach from Hesperia was arrested following an investigation into child sexual abuse allegations and investigators believe there may be additional victims.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Specialized Investigations Division, Crimes Against Children Detail, initiated the investigation after receiving a report of a lewd and lascivious act involving a child around 4 p.m. on Tuesday. The investigation identified Gene Richard Griffith III, 36, a resident of Hesperia and the wrestling coach at Hesperia High School, as the suspect. Griffith was arrested the following day and booked at the High Desert Detention Facility in San Bernardino on suspicion of committing lewd and lascivious acts on a child.
Authorities have released Griffith’s booking photograph as they believe there could be more unreported victims. They urge anyone with information about the case, or who believes they or someone they know may have been victimized by Griffith, to contact Detective Victoria Twardowski at 909-890-4904.
