Parents in Southern California are terrified after migrants tried to board a school bus filled with children on two separate occasions.
Jamul-Dulzura Union School District Superintendent Liz Bystedt said that the first incident occurred on Tuesday (August 27). She said that a group of three men were walking in the middle of the highway and tried to stop the school bus. The bus driver refused to stop and drove around the group, making its scheduled stop.
The next morning, a school bus trying to pick up students at the same stop was rushed by a group of about 20 migrants who tried to board. Parents at the bus stop helped the bus driver stop the migrants from getting on the bus.
Bystedt said that the district informed law enforcement about the incidents.
Nicole Cardinale told KUSI that her eight-year-old son was on one of the buses and described the incident as “really scary.”
“He said these adults – they weren’t kids – had backpacks on, and they were trying to get on [his bus]… He said there was a lot of them.”
The San Diego Sheriff’s Office said that it is investigating the incidents.
“The San Diego Sheriff’s Office was made aware of this incident today. We are conducting a follow-up investigation to determine if a criminal act has occurred. The Sheriff’s Office takes issues regarding student safety very seriously and are working with the school district in order to keep the students and our community safe,” Kimberly King with the Sheriff’s Department told the news station.
