Burglars Continue to Target San Fernando Valley Homes

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – More burglary cases were reported in the San Fernando Valley overnight, including one in Studio City and two in Toluca Lake, as police use increased patrols to try and stem what’s become a regular occurrence.

The latest burglary was reported around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday in the 11400 block of Sunshine Terrace, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The suspect, who left a door open, was gone by the time officers responded to a call from the homeowner, who arrived home to find the residence had been broken into.

In an earlier case Tuesday, a resident called authorities to report there were two men in her backyard. That call followed another in the 4900 block of Placidia Avenue. A caller phoned police to say his surveillance system recorded two men entering a rear door.

No arrests were reported.

April has seen a spate of burglaries in the San Fernando Valley, many of them close to Ventura Boulevard, one of the main east-west routes through an area that includes the communities of Sherman Oaks, Encino, Tarzana and Woodland Hills.

Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass has directed LAPD Chief Jim McDonnell to increase patrols in the area. McDonnell has said investigators are using a number of methods to stop the thieves, including gathering security video and using automated license plate readers.
