Tucker Carlson Says He’s ‘Tormented’ By Helping Trump Get Elected

Conservative political commentator Tucker Carlson apologized for his role in helping President Donald Trump get elected for a second term in 2024 during the latest episode of his Tucker Carlson Show podcast on Monday (April 20) alongside his younger brother Buckley, known to his family as “Uncle Buck,” who had previously worked as a speechwriter for Trump.

“I do think it’s like a moment to wrestle with our own consciences,” Carlson said. “You know, we’ll be tormented by it for a long time. I will be. And I want to say I’m sorry for misleading people. It was not intentional, that’s all I’ll say.”

“You and I and everyone else who supported him—you wrote speeches for him, I campaigned for him—I mean, we’re implicated in this for sure,” he added while speaking to his brother. “In very small ways, but in real ways, you and me and millions of people like us are the reason this is happening right now.”

Carlson said there were warning signs about Trump’s character that he and other supporters chose to overlook.

“Was this always the plan? You don’t want to be a conspiracy nut, but clearly, there were signs of low character. We knew that,” he said.

Buckley then raised the prospect of the 25th Amendment, which would allow the removal of an unfit president in adherence with the U.S. Constitution, claiming it was “not crazy to talk about it in this context.”

Additionally, Tucker’s son, who is also named Buckley, quit his role as deputy press secretary to Vice President JD Vance last week amid his father’s growing feud with the president. Carlson, who was fired from his FOX News anchor role in 2023, was a vocal supporter of Trump during the 2024 presidential campaign despite it previously being revealed that he wrote “I hate him passionately” about Trump in a text exchange on January 4, 2021, two days prior to the January 6 Capitol attack carried out by the president’s supporters protesting his 2020 election loss.

Carlson has been critical of Trump in recent months, most notably over the bombing of Iran under ‘Operation Epic Fury,’ which he’s claimed is being carried out through the personal demands of Israel.
