Light Rain, Gusty Winds Expected Across Southland

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – A weak spring storm will bring light rain and gusty winds to the Southland beginning Monday evening, though the heaviest precipitation is expected to remain north of the region.

Rain was forecast to spread into Los Angeles County overnight and continue into Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service.

Forecasters said rainfall totals will be relatively light, generally one-third of an inch or less, with locally higher amounts of up to three- quarters of an inch possible in mountain areas. Rainfall rates were expected to remain modest, limiting the risk of flooding or debris flows.

“By Tuesday evening, the rain will be tapering off, with dry conditions expected on Wednesday,” the weather agency said.

No meaningful snow accumulation was expected in the local mountains given current snow level forecasts.

Gusty southwest winds were expected through Tuesday, particularly in interior areas, with stronger gusts possible in the mountains.

Winds will shift to the west and northwest by Wednesday, with breezy conditions continuing in some areas, including the Interstate 5 corridor, forecasters said.

Temperatures will trend cooler, with highs Tuesday falling 4 to 8 degrees below normal. A slight warming trend is expected to begin Wednesday, with temperatures returning to near normal levels.

Near-normal to slightly below-normal temperatures are expected Thursday and Friday, followed by a more noticeable cooldown over the weekend.

Forecasters said another low-pressure system could bring a chance of light rain beginning Saturday, though any additional precipitation is expected to be limited.
