SUN VALLEY (NS) – A man is in police custody Monday after he was arrested for weapons possession and possibly transporting illegal fireworks in Sun Valley.
Officers from the Los Angeles Police Department’s Foothill Division were conducting a vehicle search for a minor traffic infraction at approximately 1 a..m. at 8224 Telfair Ave. and Pernrose Street, an LAPD officer told City News Service.
During the search, officers found a firearm and several fireworks. Initial reports stated a possible improvised explosive device (IED) was found, but that report was not accurate, police said.
During the search, a dog attacked and bit one of the officers and was subsequently shot and killed by police, the LAPD said.
The Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics took the officer to a hospital in stable condition.
The suspect was arrested at the scene and the department’s bomb squad has been called to the scene regarding he bomb scare.
