ACTON (CNS) – A fire broke out near Acton today and scorched 345 acres in relatively short order despite what was described as a moderate rate of spread.

The blaze was reported at 11:23 a.m. in the area of North Crown Valley and Soledad Canyon roads, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department., which indicated that units arrived to a second-alarm fire that had burned 80 acres at a moderate rate of spread.”

The fire had to the potential to grow to an many as 300 acres, according to the county fire department. According to incident command, the fire is now 26% contained.

Some structures were being threatened by the flames, and some evacuations were ordered in the area. It was unclear how many people were affected.
