Actor Robert Duvall Dead At 95

Academy Award winner Robert Duvall, best known for roles in The Godfather and Apocalypse Now, has died at the age of 95, his wife, Luciana, confirmed in a statement sent by his public relations agency via Barron’s.

“Yesterday we said goodbye to my beloved husband, cherished friend, and one of the greatest actors of our time. Bob passed away peacefully at home,” Luciana wrote.

“To the world, he was an Academy Award-winning actor, a director, a storyteller. To me, he was simply everything,” she added. “His passion for his craft was matched only by his deep love for characters, a great meal, and holding court.”

Duvall died at his home in Middleburg, Virginia, and reportedly didn’t want a formal service, with his family encouraging his fans to honor him by “watching a great film, telling a good story around a table with friends, or taking a drive in the countryside to appreciate the world’s beauty” via NBC News.

Duvall’s career spanned nearly six decades and included seven Academy Award nominations, earning his first for his role in The Godfather Part II and winning in Best Actor in a Leading Role in 1984 for Tender Mercies. The legendary actor remained acting well into the 2010s, which included earning his final Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor in 2015 for The Judge.
