Trader Joe’s has surpassed Publix as America’s favorite supermarket, according to the American Customer Satisfaction Index.
The California-based chain, which has 631 locations nationwide as of January 2026, was reported to have a satisfaction rating of 86 points, an increase of two points since 2025. Publix was second at 84 points, the same number it had when it claimed the title during last year’s annual survey of 30,000 Americans.
Texas-based H-E-B, which was selected as America’s top grocery store for 2026 by dunnhumby last month, ranked third with an 83-point satisfaction rating, a 1% increase from 2025. The top 5 was rounded out by Walmart’s membership-only warehouse club retail chain Sam’s Club at 82 points and the discount chain Aldi at 81 points.

Overall, supermarkets were reported to have a 1% decrease satisfaction benchmark, going from 79 in 2025 to 78 in 2026.
