Trump Reveals Reason For Large Bruise Amid Health Speculation

President Donald Trump claimed that he “clipped” his left hand on the signing table during the Board of Peace event at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland on Thursday (January 22), which caused the large, visible bruise that led to more speculation about his health this week.

“I clipped it on the table,” Trump said aboard Air Force One via CNN‘s Samantha Waldenberg.

“I put a little — what do they call it? — cream on it. But I clipped it,” he added.

The White House shared a similar statement addressing the large bruise on Trump’s hand seen while signing the charter inaugurating the global board.

“At the Board of Peace event today in Davos, President Trump hit his hand on the corner of the signing table, causing it to bruise,” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement obtained by CNN.

Trump once again claimed his high dosage of aspirin made him prone to bruising while addressing reporters on Air Force One Thursday.

“I would say, take aspirin if you like your heart, but don’t take aspirin if you don’t want to have a little bruising,” Trump said via CNN. “I take the big aspirin, and when you take the big aspirin, they tell you, you bruise. The doctor said, ‘You don’t have to take that, sir, you’re very healthy.’ I said, ‘I’m not taking any chances.’”

Trump didn’t appear to show heavy bruising at the beginning of the Board of Peace signing event, but did so about 10 minutes later while signing several documents. The president was initially spotted with bruising on his right hand last year, which CNN reported began prior to his inauguration, and drew more attention after he started attempting to cover it up with heavy makeup and bandages, as well as shield it with his other hand.

Trump began showing left-hand bruising in late 2025, leading to more questions about his health. The president told the Wall Street Journal that he takes a higher dose of daily aspirin than recommended by his doctors, which he said “is good for thinning out the blood,” during an exclusive interview earlier this month.
