Massive Recall For Various Products Over Presence Of Pest Urine, Feces

A massive recall was issued for products that could result in serious illness “due to adulteration from pests, including rodents, birds and insects,” the U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced on Friday (December 26).

The FDA confirmed that the recalled products were produced at a facility “operating under insanitary conditions,” which included “the presence of rodent excreta, rodent urine, and bird droppings in areas where medical devices, drugs, human food, pet food, and cosmetic products were held.” The conditions are suspected to pose a high risk of contamination with “filth and harmful microorganisms” as the products may have become contaminated due to contact with contaminated surfaces or being exposed to airborne particles linked to pest waste, which includes the potential presence of Salmonella.

The recalled items include drugs; medical devices; cosmetics; dietary supplements; and human and animal (pet) food products. No illnesses were reported at the time of the recall.
