Car Thefts Rising at LAX: Protect Your Vehicle

As Thanksgiving approaches, Los Angeles Airport Police have issued a warning about a rise in car thefts at LAX parking lots. Undercover officers are actively patrolling the area to combat this issue. Thieves are reportedly exploiting a flaw in some new vehicles, targeting high-end models like Dodge TRXs, GMC Yukons, GMC Denalis, Cadillac Escalades, and Jeep Rubicons. These vehicles’ rear windows can be broken without triggering the alarm, making them prime targets.

According to ABC7, car thefts at LAX have increased, with 138 cases reported this year, up from 111 last year and 67 in 2023. Police advise travelers to park near security cameras, as surveillance footage has been crucial in catching thieves. For instance, a recent camera capture led to the arrest of a catalytic-converter thief responsible for 13 thefts.

Authorities recommend keeping valuables out of sight and avoiding leaving items in the car when parked for long periods. Westside Today reports that increased patrols will continue during the holiday season, and travelers are encouraged to report suspicious activity immediately.
