A box truck loaded with nearly 500 frozen turkeys was stolen from outside a nonprofit organization in Lake Elsinore on Saturday. The turkeys were intended for a Grab-n-Go Food Distribution and Turkey Giveaway organized by the U.R. Important Foundation. The incident occurred on the 31000 block of Auto Center Drive, and authorities were alerted around 7:55 a.m., according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Office.
The nonprofit’s director, Alexxa Oliver, expressed disappointment over the theft but was moved by the community’s supportive response. “We felt really bad because we were not able to provide turkeys for them, but then they felt bad for us, too, and they were telling us that they were sorry,” Oliver told ABC7. Despite the setback, the foundation managed to distribute some food, although only a few families received turkeys.
Authorities are hopeful that local businesses may have surveillance footage that could aid in identifying the perpetrators. The investigation remains ongoing, and the community is encouraged to provide any information that might assist in recovering the stolen truck and turkeys.
