Ron Dailey, a 65-year-old hunter from Selma, was found alive after being missing for nearly three weeks in the Sierra National Forest. Dailey embarked on a solo hunting trip on October 13, planning to return the same day. When he failed to come back, his family reported him missing to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office. Despite harsh winter conditions, a multi-county search and rescue operation was launched, involving hundreds of volunteers.
Dailey, an experienced hunter, had ventured into the Swamp Lake Trail area. He initially used his truck as shelter after it broke down on a rocky trail. With limited food supplies, Dailey decided to leave the vehicle and attempt to walk out of the forest. “You either try to walk out or you’re going to sit here and die,” Dailey told ABC7 News.
After days of trekking through rugged terrain at an elevation of 10,000 feet, Dailey lost his phone and struggled to continue. Eventually, he encountered another group of hunters who provided him with food and water. “They saved my life,” Dailey said in a recording obtained by ABC News.
Dailey’s wife, Glenda, expressed gratitude for the community’s support and the hunters who found him. The Fresno County Sheriff’s Office plans to release more details about Dailey’s condition and survival after interviewing him. His safe return is considered a miracle by many involved in the search efforts.
