Walmart To Sell Discounted Weight Loss Drug Directly To Customers

Eli Lilly and Walmart have announced a collaboration to offer retail pickup options for Zepbound, a weight loss drug, at Walmart pharmacies nationwide. Starting in mid-November, patients can pick up Zepbound vials at direct-to-consumer prices through LillyDirect, which offers a significant discount compared to other GLP-1 medications for obesity.

The partnership aims to enhance access and convenience for patients managing obesity, a condition that can be physically, emotionally, and financially burdensome.

“This collaboration with Walmart is designed to reduce that burden by streamlining access to prescribed treatment,” Jennifer Mazur, Senior Vice President and General Manager of LillyDirect, said in a statement.

Zepbound, an injectable prescription medicine, helps adults with obesity or weight-related medical issues lose weight and maintain it. It is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. According to Walmart’s announcement, the drug will be available in all approved strengths, with prices starting at $349 per month for the lowest dose.

The move comes as Eli Lilly seeks to maintain its competitive edge over Novo Nordisk in the growing market for obesity and diabetes drugs. The Trump administration is also advocating for direct-to-consumer models to improve access to medications.

Lilly’s direct-to-consumer service, LillyDirect, has already seen growth, with 35% of new Zepbound prescriptions filled through this channel in the second quarter of 2025. BioPharma Dive reports that this initiative marks a significant step in expanding patient choice and convenience in managing their treatment.
