Woman Rescued From Sinking Car After Crashing Into Pond During Heavy Rain

A dramatic rescue unfolded in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, on Tuesday (October 28) when first responders saved a woman from a sinking car during heavy rain. The incident occurred around 2:45 p.m. on the Highway 17 Bypass, where the woman’s car ended up partially submerged in a pond.

Video footage captured by bystander Erik Maher and shared with WBTW shows seven men working to pull the woman out through the driver’s side window. The rescuers carried her to safety on a grassy area beside the pond. According to Horry County Fire Rescue, the woman and two bystanders who assisted in the rescue were evaluated by medics, but no one required hospitalization.

The fire department also used a dive team to attach a line to the car, allowing it to be towed from the water. The South Carolina Highway Patrol is currently investigating the incident, which briefly blocked lanes on the busy highway.
