Los Angeles has been named the top city for rat problems in the United States, according to a new report by Yelp. The report indicates that L.A. had more searches for rodent services than any other city, marking it as the leading hotspot for rat issues. Residents and pest control experts in the city have observed an increase in rodent activity, which they attribute partly to changing weather patterns.
Enrique Gonzalez, a pest control technician in Los Angeles, explained that as the weather cools, rats seek warmer places, often finding shelter in homes. “The climate is changing right now, it’s more winter, so they look for shelter,” Gonzalez told FOX LA. He advises homeowners to seal any small holes around their properties to prevent these pests from entering.
Yelp reported a 21% increase in searches for rodent services nationwide. San Francisco and New York follow Los Angeles as the second and third biggest rodent hotspots, respectively. Residents like Andrew Diego noted the prevalence of rats, particularly in downtown areas. “I grew up in L.A. and I will say there is a rat problem out here,” Diego shared with Yahoo News.
While some residents are surprised by the ranking, others expected cities like New York to top the list. However, the data highlights a growing concern in Los Angeles, prompting increased demand for pest control services.
