East Wing To Be Demolished As Trump’s Ballroom Construction Moves Forward

The White House plans to demolish the entire East Wing to make way for President Donald Trump‘s proposed $200 million ballroom. Sources familiar with the project told The New York Times that the demolition could be completed as soon as this weekend.

The ballroom’s construction has already begun, with a higher fence erected around the site to block public view. The White House Historical Association has preserved historical components of the East Wing through digital scanning and photography. Meanwhile, the Office of the First Lady and other East Wing components have been relocated within the White House complex.

Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt described the project as a “bold, necessary addition” that aligns with historical improvements made by past presidents. She emphasized that the East Wing, constructed in 1902 and 1942, would be modernized to support the ballroom project.

The White House has yet to submit plans to the National Capital Planning Commission, although it intends to do so.
