Multiple Deaths After Plane Crashes Into 18-Wheeler

Two people were killed after a plane crashed into an 18-wheeler and multiple trailers resulting in a fiery explosion near a Texas airfield, local authorities confirmed to WFAA.

The plane crashed nose-first and slid along the pavement in the 12700 block of North Saginaw Boulevard before colliding with the parked 18-wheeler and trailers. A thick, black plume of smoke was visible for miles and road closures were prompted in the area.

The plane was identified by the National Transportation Safety Board as a Beech King Air C90 twin-engine aircraft, which was confirmed by the local fire department to have departed from Alliance Airport in Fort Worth. At least 10 tractor-trailers were reported to have experienced significant damages in the crash.

The two victims were confirmed to have died, however, not publicly identified. Five others, including a child, were reported to have suffered injuries in the crash.

The fire was eventually contained, Fort Worth Fire Department officials confirmed to CBS News.

“Honestly, it kind of just looks like nothing even happened. It’s like a weird feeling, knowing something did,” said Lauren Anderson, a witness who described the 100-foot “giant black cloud of smoke” quickly being dissipated to the New York Times.

The Federal Aviation Administration is leading an investigation into the crash, which took place hours after a helicopter crashed down at Huntington Beach in California on Saturday (October 11), according to CBS News. Five people, including one child, were reportedly hospitalized after the helicopter crashed into trees in a parking lot.

Two people were reportedly pulled from the wreckage and three pedestrians were also reported to have experienced injuries, with all five receiving treatment at a hospital, though none of their conditions were known publicly, city officials confirmed to CBS News.
