Golden Bear Training Vessel Arrives at Port of LA Monday

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Students from California State University Maritime Academy aboard the training ship Golden Bear will be making arriving at the Port of Los Angeles Monday as part of the summer sea term that made stops in South Korea, Japan and Busan.

The students aboard the Golden Bear have been on a 65-day training session and traveled 12,500 nautical miles through international waters. The 500-foor vessel started its journey in Vallejo, California, and traveled to Hawaii, around the Pacific Rim with stops in Busan, South Korea and Yokohama, Japan.

The cadets on board will be making a two-day stop in Los Angeles before returning to their home port in Vallejo on Aug. 5.

The Golden Bear is expected to reach the Port of Los Angeles at 8:30 a.m. Monday. The Cal Maritime cadets are responsible for running the ship, and receive training in navigation, communication, traffic control, conning the vessel, conducting repairs and maintenance, and overseeing the main engines, power generators, sewage treatment and other systems on the ship.
